See Collector’s Encyclopedia of the American Revolution, Neumann, p.124 #13, identified as 17th-18th century. 9 3/8” length with carved wood shoe shaped base on forged iron ring secured front and back. Tapered leather straps with original shoe lace with coiled iron wire aglet (tip mount). These were worn by ladies to raise their shoes above the muddy streets. Colonial streets were often graded low to hold water for fire emergency. It is common in paintings to see village streets with a large puddle or small pond in the middle. Completely untouched throughout and in expected weathered condition. Very rare
